International Workshop on Cyber attribution: challenges, possibilities, solutions
To be held at EAI SecureComm 2021.
Workshop Chairs
David Arroyo, Spanish National Research Council, Spain
Luis Fernando Lago Fernández, Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain
Scope
Cyber attribution is one of the most challenging aspects of cybersecurity research. The heterogeneity of communication channels and the proliferation of Internet-mediated interaction models make it difficult to properly trace the origins of data and the source from which information originates. Furthermore, the possibility of generating and exchanging information anonymously adds complexity to the challenge of cyber attribution. Although obfuscation and identity concealment facilitate cyber attacks and information operations, demanding to end anonymity has its drawbacks and it is controversial, as it hampers freedom of speech, censorship resistance, whistleblowing. This workshop is intended to discuss the shortcomings of the current state of the Internet ecosystem in terms of achieving effective content and authorship attribution in an accountable and fair manner.
Topics
Particular topics of interest include:
- Natural Language Processing and network analysis for content and authorship attribution
- Mis and disinformation characterization
